[Olympia, WA – WBHG – News] – Former Major League Baseball prospect 29-year-old Gunnar Schubert, who recently posted online threats targeting United States lawmakers, was arrested on Sunday night after a 10-minute rampage in the Washington State Capitol that included lighting a fire.

In charging documents, the Washington State Patrol alleges Schubert, 29, broke into the Legislative Building around 10:20 p.m. by smashing a window. Armed with two hammers, he damaged security card readers, the busts of George Washington and Martin Luther King, Jr., burned several flags, smashed a glass door, and set a historic carpet on fire. The rampage lasted approximately ten minutes before he was taken into custody by State Police.

He was booked into the Thurston County Jail and is facing charges for second-degree burglary, second-degree arson, and first-degree malicious mischief. On Monday afternoon, the Thurston County Prosecutor requested a $5,000 bond, describing the case as “odd” and warning that people will likely have “strong feelings” about the incident. The judge presiding over the hearing said that Schubert did not commit a violent crime, releasing him without bond pending the filing of additional charges.

The Washington State Patrol said they do not believe the incident was politically motivated, and described Schubert as having a mental health crisis. Posts on his public Instagram account paint a different picture.

On Saturday, he posted a threat to Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, and U.S. Representative Kirstine Reeves, accusing them of “killing American kids.”

“That water cold kiddos up here in the PNW”

“Stop killing American kids or Kristine Reeves goes to prison and [Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown] gets hit with narcotic charges for aiding and assisting terrorist organizations. You get 5 weeks or I’m putting your families in containers and shipping them to Anjuna India for diplomatic negotiations.”

“[Director of National Counterterrorism Joe Kent] hurry up and get it done. Maybe you guys shouldn’t put drama queens in high stake matters. Canada wants banking tax laws to identify shipping lanes from Japan and the aussies”

Editor’s note: Anjuna, India, has an international reputation as the Indian equivalent of Ibiza, known for its vibrant party and dance culture with easy access to drugs.

On the same day, he published a conspiracy theory about the assassination of Charlie Kirk, claiming he was killed in Utah because of his knowledge of a money laundering operation involving Republican and Democrat leaders, including Senator Murray. According to his post, people are controlled through “certain vaccines” that compel people to act on behalf of the conspirators through electrical current.

Schubert played baseball for Pierce College and Gonzaga University before being drafted by the Florida Marlins in 2018. He played one season with the Single-A Jupiter Hammerheads with 77 hits, no home runs, 27 RBI, two stolen bases, and a career .243 batting average. He was released at the end of the season. According to his Instagram account, he is an ironworker apprentice. His bio ends with, “Less yapping, more hammering.”
